1  Cast Iron (general info) / General Information / garage sale find

Hi,
I found this pan at a garage sale and was wondering a few things. First, how do I clean it. will lye hurt the enameled surface? Second, is it worth anything. With the 2 big chips taken out of the enamel, I would assume not much collector value, but I thought it was a nice piece.Third, What would you use it for, and is it still usable with the chips?

Hello John, your skillet is among some of the first few series that Wagner made.  These are very well cast and have a smooth finish.  They resemble the Erie skillets made by Griswold.

Good evening,
Picked this fella up at an antique stop a month and a half ago, and finally got a chance to take it out of the bath today.  Logo wasn't in my blue book, but there were Griddles with similar logos.  Also, I didn't see the "A" in the middle until after the gunk was gone.
Thanks for any help!
~John

No tab on the lid\skillet.  It's definitely a combo pan as it has a nice lip on it, but there is absolutley no markings of any kind that I can see.  And I would assume it's not a mate with the handles being so different and the castings aren't close in texture....

I would say whom ever had it, had it paired for a long time as they looked identical when I bought them.

I'm with Sandy on this one Isaac. I never use a piece that I get off ebay, without running it through my own process whether it's cleaned or not. There are some strange methods of "seasoning" out there, and I want to be sure it's safe before I eat out of it.

So what are you saying, Chuck?  That I should clean and reseason that #9 griddle when it shows up??   Grin

When you find them all, it will look something like this. I went a little crazy to get the #14, but it was the last one I needed for the set. These are great pans, and if you find them at flea markets, or auctions, you can usually get them for a song.

Which ones do you have so far?
